W&L Women's Lacrosse Falls to No. 7 Salisbury, 14-5

SALISBURY, Md. – Seventh-ranked Salisbury outshot the Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team, 27-12, en route to posting a 14-5 victory at Sea Gull Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Salisbury (4-0) junior midfielder Gabbi Nieves tallied the first goal of the contest off of a free position shot just 5:30 into the game, however W&L (0-4) responded when first-year attacker Maddy Graves (Cos Cob, Conn. / Greenwich) scored back-to-back unassisted goals at the 24:26 and 22:09 marks to make the score 2-1.

Nieves then capped a 5-0 run by the Sea Gulls when she recorded her second goal of the half with 11:04 remaining in the first stanza (6-2).

Senior attacker Melissa Coggins (St. John's, Fla. / Bartram Trail) cut the lead to three when she found the back of the net at the 6:37 mark, but Salisbury scored two more goals in the half to take an 8-3 lead into intermission.

Junior attacker Lauren Procaccino (Manhasset, N.Y. / Manhasset) opened up the second stanza with a goal off of a free position shot at the 24:10 mark (8-4), but junior attacker Ariana Maxwell scored 5:12 later off of a free position shot and sparked another 5-0 run for Salisbury.

Sophomore midfielder Allie Hynson notched two goals and sophomore attacker Dana King dished out two assists during the spurt for the Sea Gulls.

Procaccino struck again when she posted her second goal of the contest off a free position shot with 7:28 left on the clock, but first-year attacker Gabrielle Mongno scored with 1:24 remaining in the game to reach the final margin of 14-5.

Salisbury held a 12-9 advantage in ground balls and an 11-10 edge in draw controls.

First-year keeper Ellie Aburn (Towson, Md. / Notre Dame Preparatory) saw 48:38 of action in goal for the Generals and stopped four shots, while sophomore Hannah Wiltshire (Wilton, Conn. / Wilton) played the remaining 11:22 and made one save. Sophomore Gianna Falcone played the duration in goal for the Sea Gulls and registered five saves.

Graves and Procaccino paced the Blue and White with two goals each. Aburn and sophomore defender Lexi Sortisio (Arnold, Md. / Broadneck) picked up two ground balls apiece. First-year midfielder Haley Tucker (Manakin-Sabot, Va. / St. Catherine's School) had team-high three draw controls.

Nieves and Hynson led Salisbury with three goals, while King and senior attacker Megan Wallenhorst dished out two assists. Senior midfielder Samantha Duranti picked up a game-high four ground balls.

W&L returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Haverford for a 4:30 pm contest.
