Sisson Propels W&L Women's Lacrosse to a 9-8 OT Victory Over Catholic

LEXINGTON, Va. – Junior midfielder Olivia Sisson (Great Falls, Va. / Langley) tallied the game-winning goal for the Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team in a 9-8 overtime victory over Catholic on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field.

Sisson recorded the game-winner 3:29 left in the overtime period when she found the back of the net off of a feed from senior attacker Melissa Coggins (St. John's, Fla. / Bartram Trail) to reach the final margin of 9-8.

The Generals (2-5) went into halftime with a 4-2 lead, but junior attacker Jenna Van Middelem (Mt. Sinai, N.Y. / Mount Sinai) sparked a 4-0 run for the Cardinals (2-4) in the second stanza when she scored at the 28:41 mark (6-4).

First-year attacker Haley Tucker (Manakin-Sabot, Va. / St. Catherine's School) cut the lead to one when she beat first-year keeper Christina De Cesaris (Downingtown, Pa. / Bishop Shanahan) with 22:46 on the clock (6-5). However, Catholic responded 3:22 later when junior midfielder Alexis Bosilovic (Gibsonia, Pa. / Sewickley Academy) registered an unassisted goal to make the score 7-5.

Coggins found Sisson at the 17:43 mark (7-6), but Bosilovic scored again with 8:41 left in the contest off of a free position shot to increase the Cardinals' lead to 8-6.

First-year Maddy Graves (Cos Cob, Conn. / Greenwich) tallied her second goal of the game at the 4:36 mark when she scored off of a feed from Holland (8-7). The duo struck again with 17 seconds remaining in regulation when Graves knotted the game at 8-8 after she scored off of the assist from Holland to send the game into overtime.

W&L jumped out to a 4-0 lead to start the contest with goals from Coggins, Graves and two from Tucker, but goals from junior midfielders Anna Stumme (Millersville, Md. / Seton Keough) and Laura Dunn (Fairfax, Va. / W. T. Woodson) made the score 4-2 going into intermission.

For the game, the Blue and White held a 23-22 edge in shots and a 17-10 advantage in ground balls. Catholic won 13 draw controls as opposed to W&L's five.

Sophomore Hannah Wiltshire (Wilton, Conn. / Wilton) saw all 62:31 of action in goal for the Generals and posted a season-high seven saves. De Cesaris also played the entire contest in net for the Cardinals and finished with nine saves.

Tucker and Graves tallied three goals each for W&L, while Coggins and Holland dished out three assists apiece.

Bosilovic paced Catholic with three goals and junior midfielder Allie Bond (Montclair, N.J. / Montclair Kimberley Academy) had a game-high nine draw controls.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Wednesday, when they open up ODAC play by hosting Shenandoah for a 4:30 pm contest.
