Box Score WINCHESTER, Va. — The Washington and Lee baseball team was held to just six hits, falling to eighth-ranked Shenandoah, 5-1, on Wednesday at Bridgeforth Field.
The Hornets (11-4, 1-2 ODAC) scored three runs in the bottom of the first off of W&L (14-8, 2-3 ODAC) senior starting pitcher Kyle Tipping (Green Lane, Pa./The Hill School). Junior first baseman Jake Loew lined a RBI double to left, junior catcher Dan Cameron hit a sacrifice fly to right and then Loew came home on a wild pitch.
In the bottom of the third, Shenandoah added its final two runs on a two-run single to left by junior shortstop John Wilt. The Generals scored their lone run in the top of the fifth on a RBI single by junior third baseman Ryan Weston (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif./Palos Verdes Peninsula).
Sophomore Colin Morse (3-0) started the game for the Hornets, giving up one unearned run in 7.0 innings. He allowed four hits, while striking out seven. Tipping (2-2) threw a complete game for W&L in the loss. It marked the first of his career. Tipping was charged with five runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.
The Generals host Randolph-Macon for a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at 1:00 pm.
