Box Score

LEXINGTON, Va. – Senior goalkeeper Cara Mulligan (Glen Ridge, N.J. / Glen Ridge) made a save with 19 seconds remaining to seal a 9-8 win for the 11th-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team over Bridgewater on Wednesday at Watt Field.

The Generals (13-2, 10-0) held an 8-1 lead midway through the second half until Bridgewater's (7-9, 4-6) junior midfielder Jesse Colligan (Fairfax, Va. / Fairfax) ignited a 5-0 run when she found the back of the net off of a free position shot at the 14:05 mark.

Colligan scored three times during the spurt, along with goals from sophomore midfielder Claire Palermo-Re (Manassas, Va. / Forest Park) and junior midfielder Jenna Devilbiss (Taneytown, Md. / Francis Scott Key) to trim the deficit to 8-6.

W&L responded when sophomore attacker Lauren Procaccino (Manhasset, N.Y. / Manhasset) scored off of a feed from sophomore midfielder Corinne Wood (Phoenix, Md. / Dulaney) with 4:07 on the clock (9-6).

The Eagles notched the next two goals, with Colligan scoring her fourth of the game off of an assist from Palermo-Re at the 3:29 mark. Then junior attacker Caroline Fletcher (Richmond, Va. / Trinity Episcopal) brought Bridgewater to within one (9-8) with one minute remaining off of a feed from sophomore midfielder Annie Sullivan (Prince Frederick, Md. / Calvert).

The Eagles won the ensuing draw control, and had a free position shot with 32 seconds left but Fletcher's shot sailed high. Bridgewater regained possession, and had another draw control shot with 19 seconds remaining in the game. Mulligan stopped Fletcher's shot and was able to run out clock to secure the victory.

The Blue and White took a 6-1 lead into intermission. First-year attacker Liz Curtis (Nashville, Tenn. / Harpeth Hall) sparked a 4-0 run when she tallied the first goal of the game at the 23:52 mark off of an assist from junior attacker Melissa Coggins (St. John's, Fla. / Bartram Trail). After a Bridgewater goal, Procaccino went on to score two goals for the Generals at the 3:33 and 1:33 marks.

For the game, W&L held an edge in shots (30-23), ground balls (25-19) and in draw controls (12-7).

Mulligan saw all 60 minutes of action in net for the Generals and finished with nine saves. Sophomore goalie Rachel Gruber (Fair Lawn, N.J. / Fair Lawn) also played the entire contest and registered 14 saves for the Eagles.

Procaccino led W&L's offense with five goals, while Curtis tallied two markers. Sophomore midfielder Olivia Sisson (Great Falls, Va. / Langley) and first-year attacker Jess Castelo (Red Bank, N.J. / Lawrenceville School) chipped in a goal apiece. Coggins added two assists and senior defender Katie McCartin (Ashton, Md. / Our Lady of Good Counsel) picked up a game-high five ground balls.

Colligan finished with four goals and Devilbiss posted two, while Palermo-Re and Fletcher each added a goal.
