Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – The 10th-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team scored eight consecutive goals to end the first half en route to a 14-5 victory over Randolph-Macon on Wednesday afternoon at Watt Field.
The Yellow Jackets' (7-3, 3-1) junior attacker Alyssa Chavez (Frederick, Md. / Walkersville) tallied the first goal of the game off of an assist from senior attacker Betsey Hebert (Lutherville, Md. / Roland Park Country) at the 24:48 mark. R-MC would be held scoreless over the next 30 minutes of game time.
The Generals (9-2, 6-0) responded 20 seconds later when sophomore midfielder Olivia Sisson (Great Falls, Va. / Langley) ignited an 8-0 run with an unassisted goal to tie the game at 1-1.
Junior attacker Melissa Coggins (St. John's, Fla. / Bartram Trail) scored one goal and dished out two assists in the spurt, while sophomore attacker Lauren Procaccino (Manhasset, N.Y. / Manhasset) notched two goals and two assists. First-year attacker Jess Castelo (Red Bank, N.J. / Lawrenceville School) also had a goal and an assist, along with another goal from Sisson. W&L took an 8-1 lead into halftime.
Both teams traded goals over the first 21:29 of the second half, first-year attacker Liz Curtis (Nashville, Tenn. / Harpeth Hall) netted her first collegiate goal with 8:31 left in the contest to extend the Generals' lead to eight (12-4).
Hebert found the back of the net for her second goal of the game with 4:00 left on the clock to make the score 12-5. The Generals scored the last two goals of the contest to reach the final margin.
For the game, W&L held an advantage in shots (27-13) and ground balls (21-8). The Yellow Jackets edged the Generals in draw controls, 12-9.
Senior keeper Cara Mulligan (Glen Ridge, N.J. / Glen Ridge) played the entire contest in goal and posted five saves. Sophomore goalie Allie Walker (Towson, Md. / Mercy) suffered the loss for R-MC, seeing all 60 minutes of action and recording eight saves.
Procaccino finished with four goals and one assist, while Coggins registered two goals and three assists. Sisson tallied three goals and first-year defender Riley Garcia (Manhasset, N.Y. / Manhasset) picked up four ground balls and caused two turnovers.
Hebert and sophomore midfielder Susie Snee (Bel Air, Md. / John Carroll) had two goals each, while Chavez chipped in one tally.
W&L returns to the field on Saturday when it travels to Guilford for a 12:00 pm contest.
