No. 10 W&L Women's Lacrosse Defeats Lynchburg, 9-4

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The No. 10 Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team defeated Lynchburg in ODAC action on Saturday evening, 9-4, at Shellenberger Field.

The Generals (7-1, 4-0) started the contest with a 4-0 run after sophomore attacker Sara Holland (Houston, Texas / M.B. Lamar) found the back of the net at the 23:17 mark. Sophomore midfielders Hollis Tardy (Dallas, Texas / The Hockaday School) and Olivia Sisson (Great Falls, Va. / Langley) and sophomore attacker Lauren Procaccino (Manhasset, N.Y. / Manhasset) all scored during the spurt.

The Hornets (3-4, 1-2) responded when junior attacker Lindsay Parker tallied a goal off of a free position shot with eight minutes remaining in the first half. Sisson scored her second goal of the half off of an assist from junior attacker Melissa Coggins (St. John's, Fla. / Bartram Trail) less than a minute later to make the score 5-1.  Junior midfielder Katherine Francis then cut W&L's lead back to three when she found the back of the net off of a free position shot with 1:33 left on the clock. The Blue and White took the 5-2 lead into intermission.

Senior midfielder Sammy Yates (Ridgewood, N.J. / Ridgewood) opened up the second half tallying the Generals' sixth goal off of an assist from Coggins at the 25:55 mark. Junior attacker Caroline Carozza then scored 35 seconds later off of an assist from first-year midfielder Dorrie MacGregor to make the score 6-3.

Coggins and Tardy responded with two goals at the 23:48 and 20:25 marks to extend W&L's lead to 8-3. With 17:29 left on the clock, Francis scored her second goal of the game (8-4), but Sisson went on to tally her third goal off of an assist from Coggins with 13:15 remaining to reach the final margin.

For the game, the Generals out-shot the Hornets, 28-17, and held a 9-6 edge in draw controls. W&L also picked up 13 ground balls as opposed to LC's 11.

Senior goalkeeper Cara Mulligan (Glen Ridge, N.J. / Glen Ridge) saw all 60 minutes in goal and recorded six saves. Senior goalie Hailey Bossert played the entire game and suffered the loss for the Hornets, posting eight saves.

Sisson led the Generals with three goals and Coggins dished out a career-high five assists.

Francis paced the Hornets with two goals, while Parker and Carozza chipped in one goal each.

W&L returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts No.8 Middlebury for a 4:30 pm contest.
