Box Score BROOKLANDVILLE, Md. — Eighth-ranked Franklin & Marshall scored 11 of the first 12 goals of the game on its way to a 17-7 victory over the 12th-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team on Saturday at St. Paul's School.
Junior attacker Grace Saliba gave the Diplomats (2-0) a 1-0 lead 2:40 into the opening half off an assist from first-year attacker Paige Moriarty. Sophomore midfielder Hayley Soutter (McLean, Va./Langley) tied the game at 1-1 for the Generals (2-1) on a free-position shot with 25:29 left in the half.
Over the next 22 minutes, F&M scored 10 straight goals to take an 11-1 lead with 3:21 left in the first stanza. During the run, senior midfielder Emily Everdell, senior attacker Brittney Jorgenson and senior midfielder Emily D'Erasmo each scored twice. W&L ended the half on a goal by sophomore midfielder Corinne Wood (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) with 34 seconds left off an assist from sophomore midfielder Hollis Tardy (Dallas, Texas/The Hockaday School) to bring the score to 11-2.
The Generals scored the first goal of the second half with 28:34 left in the game, as sophomore midfielder Olivia Sisson (Great Falls, Va./Langley) recorded her fourth goal of the year, to trim the deficit to 11-3. Jorgenson responded with her third tally of the game at the 26:24 mark to stretch the advantage to 12-3.
After Soutter scored her second goal of the contest with 20:51 left, the Diplomats notched three straight goals to push the margin to 15-4 with 14:49 left in the contest. The Generals outscored F&M, 3-2, in the last 14 minutes to reach the final margin.
Senior Cara Mulligan (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) spent the entire game in goal for the Blue and White, collecting five saves and one ground ball. For the Diplomats, junior Kaitlin Hardt tallied four saves in 51:21, while first-year Danielle Harrington notched two saves in 8:39 of action.
F&M held an advantage in shots (29-18), ground balls (22-15) and draw controls (16-10).
Wood led the Generals' offense with three goals. Soutter added two goals and Tardy notched two assists. Senior defender Katie McCartin (Ashton, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) paced the W&L defense with three ground balls and one caused turnover, while Tardy and Soutter each registered a team-high three draw controls.
Jorgenson notched a game-high four goals and had one assist. Everdell, D'Erasmo, Moriarty and sophomore attacker Gabby Frank each added two goals for F&M. Hardt and Moriarty each totaled a team-high four ground balls, and senior midfielder Megan Kelly had a team-best two caused turnovers.
The Generals will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Hollins for a 4:00 pm contest.
