Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. – Washington and Lee scored six second-half goals en route to posting a 7-0 victory over Greensboro College in women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Pride Field.
Sophomore midfielder Katie Pettit (San Diego, Calif. / Scripps Ranch) started the scoring for the Generals (2-0-1) when she tallied the first and only goal in the first half off an assist from sophomore forward Tricia Jessee (Roanoke, Va. / Patrick Henry) in the 20th-minute.
W&L didn't waste much time adding to its lead in the second half as senior midfielder Lauren Abraham (Richmond, Va. / Mills E. Godwin) corralled her own blocked shot in the box and beat the keeper just 1:04 into the second half for a 2-0 lead.
First-year forward Chandler Wickers (Portola Valley, Calif. / Menlo School) scored unassisted just 46 seconds later for a 3-0 lead, and junior forward Becca Dunn (Houston, Texas / Memorial) added two goals in the final 10 minutes as the Generals pulled away for the victory.
The Generals held a 27-5 advantage in shots and an 8-0 edge in corner kicks.
Junior goalkeeper Addie Healy (Waterford, Va. / Woodgrove) played the first 75:18 in goal without facing a shot. Junior Shelbi Hendricks (Louisville, Ky. / Kentucky Country Day) played the final 14:42 and also did not face a shot on goal.
Junior Jessica Thatcher took the loss in goal for the Pride (1-2), totaling five saves and allowing four goals in 71:29. She was spelled by sophomore Tyesha Hardy for the final 18:31. Hardy posted three saves with two goals allowed.
W&L returns to action on Sunday, when it travels to Methodist for a 3:00 pm contest.
