W&L Women's Lacrosse Flies Past Randolph, 19-1

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The 17th-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team held Randolph to just six shots and one goal en route to claiming a 19-1 win on Wednesday night at WildCat Stadium.

W&L (4-0, 1-0) jumped out to an early 6-0 lead by the 17:07 mark, as four different players found the back of the net. Senior attacker Greta Witter (Houston, Texas / The Hill School) led the surge, scoring the first three goals of the contest. First-year midfielder Erin Campbell stopped the run and put Randolph (1-1, 0-1) on the board with a free-position goal at the 12:56 mark. The WildCats remained scoreless the rest of the half, while the Generals continued to increase their advantage, entering the break with an 11-1 lead.

Sophomore attacker Carly Taglienti (Moorestown, N.J. / Moorestown) opened up the scoring in the second half (12-1) with W&L's 12th goal just 1:22 into the period. The Generals' defense held the WildCats to just three shots the rest of the way, while first-year midfielder Hayley Soutter (McLean, Va. / Langley) added three scores in the final 11:30 as W&L pulled away for the win.

The Blue and White held an advantage in both shots (49-6) and ground balls (26-7) for the contest.

Junior Cara Mulligan (Glen Ridge, N.J. / Glen Ridge) claimed the win in net for the Blue and White, playing 47 minutes and collecting two saves. Senior Kingsley Schroeder (Dayton, Ohio / Westminster School / Miami Valley) made her debut in net as a General, playing the final 13 minutes and recording two saves. Junior keeper Samantha Fagone spent the entire game in the cage for the WildCats, tallying 21 saves.

Witter paced W&L, scoring four goals on four shots. Senior midfielder Meredith Lavin (Doylestown, Pa. / Central Bucks East) handed out two assists, while Soutter found the back of the net three times. Sophomore midfielder Emily Conway (Darien, Conn. / Greenwich Academy) and sophomore attacker Melissa Coggins (Broxville, N.Y. / Westminster School), along with first-year attacker Lindsay Hanau (Broxville, N.Y. / Westminster School) and first-year midfielder Olivia Sisson (Great Falls, Va. / Langley) each tallied two goals. Senior defenders Leanne Stone (Darien, Conn. / Darien) and Olive Waxter (Baltimore, Md. / Roland Park) led the defense, with each collecting three ground balls and causing two turnovers.

Campbell notched RC's only goal of the day and also added a ground ball and two draw controls. Junior midfielder Taylor Klevenz added three draw controls and two caused turnovers.

W&L returns to the field on Saturday when it plays No. 5 Franklin and Marshall at the St. Paul School for Girls in Brooklandville, Md. Action is set to start at 1:00 pm.
