LEXINGTON, Va. – Washington and Lee Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Brooke O'Brien has announced that the Generals will forfeit their season-opening contest with St. Mary's College of Maryland scheduled for February 20 at 3:00 pm at St. Mary's.

O'Brien cited numerous reasons for the forfeiture, including the suspension of several players for a violation of team expectations, along with several injuries and illnesses to team members.  As a result, the Generals could not field a full team for the contest.

O'Brien emphasized that the suspended players had not broken any University policies or any laws, but had failed to comply with regulations to which all players had agreed. 

The suspended players will be eligible for competition starting with the Generals' next contest, a road game at Christopher Newport on February 23.
