Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – The 15th-ranked Washington and Lee women's
lacrosse team used an eight-goal run over a span of 10:38 to pull
away for a 19-7 win over Randolph-Macon on Saturday at West
Field.
After Randolph-Macon (8-9, 4-5) made it a one score game (5-4)
with a goal at the 2:20 mark of the first half, W&L began its
decisive run with a unassisted tallies by sophomore midfielder Meade
Brewster (Brookside, N.J./West Morris Mendham) at 1:48 and
senior attacker Maddie
McKaig (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) at 0:42 for a 7-4 lead at the
halftime break.
The Generals (13-3, 9-0) then scored six goals in the opening
8:50 of the second half to push out to a 13-4 lead with 21:10
remaining in the game. Senior attacker Alli Shearin
(Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) started the second half scoring with
a pair of goals just 31 seconds apart, and sophomore attacker Katie
Hagen (West Chester, Pa./Notre Dame) also got in the act with
two scores separated by just 36 seconds.
R-MC scored consecutive goals to pull within 15-7 with 3:51
left, but W&L scored the game's final four tallies for the
14-goal final margin.
McKaig paced W&L in scoring with three goals and two
assists, while Shearin notched three scores. First-year
midfielder Julia Van
Sant (Chevy Chase, Md./Taft School), sophomore midfielder Meredith
Lavin (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East), Brewster, Hagen and
sophomore attacker Margaret
Klein (North Andover, Mass./Brooks) all scored two goals, and
sophomore attacker Greta Witter
(Douglasville, Pa./The Hill School) dished out two assists.
First-year Cara
Mulligan (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) posted five saves in
goal.
Randolph-Macon was led by junior midfielder Emily Lynch's three
goals and one assist. First-year midfielder Betsey Herbert
totaled two goals and junior Nicole Woodworth stopped 11 shots in
net.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Sunday when it travels
to fourth-ranked Gettysburg for a 2:00 pm contest. Note the
time change from the earlier time of 3:00 pm.
