AMHERST, Mass. – Fourth-ranked Amherst College shot nearly 54 percent from the floor and held a 55-31 advantage on the glass in defeating Washington and Lee, 100-64, in the championship game of the Ken Wright '52 Memorial Invitational Tournament hosted by Amherst on Sunday.

The Generals (2-1) made their first two shots from the field and the game was tied at 4-4 just 1:27 into the game.  However, W&L missed each of its next seven shots from the field and turned the ball over three times in that span as a 17-0 Lord Jeffs' run gave them a 21-4 lead just seven minutes into the ball game.

Amherst continued its hot shooting throughout the first half, ending the opening 20 minutes with a 61.1 shooting percentage (22-36) and a 57-27 lead.

The Lord Jeffs continued their onslaught in the second half, holding the Generals to just 28.9 percent shooting (11-38) in the final 20 minutes and extending their lead to as many as 38 points in cruising to the tournament championship.

The Generals, who shot just 30.8 percent (20-65) from the floor and 1-of-17 (.059) from distance, were led by senior guard Kyle Bond (Boxborough, Mass./Brimmer and May), who scored a career-high 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting.  Sophomore forward Larry Whitaker (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) tallied 12 points and six boards and first-year guard Javon McDonald (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) notched 12 markers on 10-of-12 shooting from the foul line.  Junior forward J.D. Ey (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) chipped in 10 points and six boards in earning all-tournament honors.

Sophomore guard Aaron Toomey led the Lord Jeffs with 16 points, seven assists and six rebounds, while junior guard Willy Workman posted 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field.   Junior center Peter Kaasila notched 13 points and eight rebounds and junior guard Allen Williamson totaled 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Tuesday as it travels to Shenandoah for a 7:00 pm contest.
