Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – Sophomore midfielder Ainsley Daigle (Lafayette,
La./Episcopal School of Acadiana) recorded the lone goal of the
contest as the Washington and Lee women's soccer team claimed a 1-0
victory over Guilford College on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field
in the ODAC season opener for both squads.
Despite holding a 4-2 advantage in shots and 4-1 edge in corner
kicks, the Generals (2-1-0, 1-0-0 ODAC) were not able to
capitalize, as the match remained knotted at 0-0 going into the
half.
Daigle recorded her goal in the 60th minute, sending
a shot past Guilford (3-5-0, 0-1-0 ODAC) junior keeper Kat Adams
(Oak Island, N.C./South Brunswick) to put the Generals up, 1-0,
securing their first ODAC victory of the season.
For the contest, the Generals held the edge in both shots, 7-5,
and corner kicks, 6-1.
Junior keeper Emily
Leary (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) played all 90:00 in net,
recording three saves en route to the shutout. Adams also played
the duration for Guilford, stopping 2 shots.
W&L returns to action tomorrow as it hosts Greensboro
College for a 1:00 pm contest.
