LEXINGTON, Va. – Sophomore Roger Strong (Spencerport, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) allowed one run over seven innings and the Washington and Lee baseball team snapped a two-game losing streak with an 11-2 win over Eastern Mennonite on Wednesday evening at Cap'n Dick Smith Field.

Strong improved his record to 4-0 on the season and lowered his ERA to 2.23 as he allowed one run on six hits and three walks with six strikeouts in seven innings of work. Junior Gregg Laswell (Houston, Texas/Memorial) pitched the final two innings and allowed one run on four hits with five strikeouts.

W&L (12-14, 8-8) scored three runs apiece in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to assume an 11-1 lead and back Strong's start.

In the fourth, W&L was aided by a pair of bases-loaded walks, first-year shortstop Jonathan Stutts (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Country Day) added a two-run triple in the fifth and sophomore designated hitter Alston James (Columbia, S.C./Hammond) clubbed a two-run double in the sixth inning.

Stutts finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored, while James was 2-for-3 at the plate. He also drove in three runs, stole a base and scored once. Senior first baseman Hunter Serenbetz (Stamford, Conn./Taft)  had three hits in four at-bats, including a double, and scored three times.

Junior rightfielder Ben Wise (Staunton, Va./Robert E. Lee) led EMU (8-14, 3-11), going 2-for-3 at the plate. Senior second baseman Cody Davis (Goodview, Va./Staunton River) was 1-for-3 with a run scored and junior centerfielder Chris Harpine (Fredericksburg, Va./Colonial Forge) added an RBI double in four at-bats.

Sophomore Andy Richter (Perkasie, Pa./Christopher Dock) started for the Royals and took the loss (2-3), as he allowed five runs (4 earned) on six hits and three walks with a pair of strikeouts in 3.2 innings.

Washington and Lee will now break for finals and will return to the field on Apr. 17, when it will travel to Virginia Wesleyan for a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 pm.
