Box Score HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Eastern Mennonite raced to an 8-0 lead
after two innings and limited the Washington and Lee baseball team
to just seven hits in defeating the Generals, 10-2, on Tuesday
afternoon at James Madison's Long Field.
The Royals (5-4, 3-2 ODAC) scored six runs in the first inning,
including two-run doubles by Cody Davis and Dylan Smith to assume a
6-0 lead. EMU added a pair of runs in the second inning in cruising
to the eight-run win.
W&L (2-6, 1-2) tallied single runs in the fourth and fifth
innings as first-year designated hitter Luke Deary (Carlisle,
Mass./Groton School) clubbed an RBI double and senior first baseman
Hunter Serenbetz (Stamford, Conn./Taft) added a run-scoring single.
Senior Nate Adkins (Ravenswood, W. Va./Ravenswood) started for
the Generals and allowed six runs on four hits and two walks in 1.0
innings of work. He struck out three batters in falling to 1-2 on
the season.
Serenbetz finished 1-for-4 with an RBI. Junior rightfielder
Anthony Cardona (Lower Gwynedd, Pa./Chestnut Hill) was 1-for-4 with
a run scored and senior third baseman Jim Plantolt (Pylesville,
Md./North Harford) went 1-for-3 and scored a run.
Junior Jason Tate started and went the distance for EMU. He
allowed two runs (1 earned) on seven hits and six walks while
striking out five batters. Smith finished 3-for-4 at the plate with
two RBI and three runs scored and Davis went 2-for-4 with two RBI
and a run scored.
The Generals return to the field on Thursday when they host
Greensboro at 3:00 pm.
