Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. - The 14th-ranked Washington and Lee women's
lacrosse team forced 29 Guilford turnovers and jumped out to a 10-1
lead as the Generals topped the Quakers, 15-4, in ODAC action on
Tuesday afternoon at Armfield Athletic Center.
The Generals (10-4, 7-1) jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the opening
23 minutes of the game on the strength of a hat trick from junior
attacker Britten Mathews (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) before the
Quakers got on board at the 6:17 mark. W&L added another goal
when sophomore midfielder Emmy Mathews (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr)
scored on a free-postion shot to give the Generals a 7-1 advantage
at the break. Washington and Lee then outscored Guilford, 8-3, in
the second half, including another goal from Britten Mathews and a
pair from senior attacker Katie Flippen (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk
Academy) en route to the 11-goal triumph.
The Blue and White were led by Flippen and Britten Mathews, who
totaled four goals apiece. Emmy Mathews netted three goals, while
junior attacker Meredith Freeman (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS) and senior
midfielder Kelsi Robinson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown) notched one
goal and dished out two assists each. Sophomore goalkeeper
Katharine Farrar (Lexington, Va./Episcopal) and first-year Jennifer
Linder (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) split time between the pipes
and combined to stop eight would-be goals for W&L.
Guilford (5-10, 2-5) was paced by junior midfielder Carrie Ernst,
who tallied one goal and one assist. Junior midfielder Shelly
Nogueira added two assists, while junior netminder Alyzza-May
Callahan played all 60 minutes in goal and registered 16 saves.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it travels to
Swarthmore, Pa. to take on Colorado College at 10:00 am.
