LEXINGTON, Va. -- Senior attacker Jen Pritchard (Media, Pa./Penncrest) netted the game-winning goal to lift third-ranked Franklin & Marshall to an 11-9 win over seventh-ranked Washington and Lee in women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field.
The Generals (3-1) got on board just 1:47 into the contest as junior attacker Meredith Freeman (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS) found the back of the net unassisted. Franklin & Marshall answered back 1:20 later with a goal from first-year midfielder Lauren Ehrhardt (Westbury, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) off of a junior attacker Blake Hargest (Cockeysville, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) assist. Senior attacker Katie Flippen (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) put the Generals back on top with an unassisted goal at the 26:13 mark, but F&M outscored W&L, 6-1, including tallies from senior midfielder Shannon Summers (North Wales, Pa./The Hill School), to enter the break with a 7-3 advantage.
W&L opened up the second half scoring with four-straight goals, including one by Freeman and Flippen, to tie the contest, 7-7, at 16:13. F&M answered back just 1:34 later when Summers connected with Pritchard, who slipped one past W&L first-year netminder Jennifer Linder (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) to take an 8-7 lead. The Generals then netted the next two goals to give W&L a 9-8 advantage at 12:23, but the Diplomats tallied the final three goals of the contest en route to the two-goal victory.
Franklin & Marshall was led by Pritchard, who tallied three goals, including the game-winner, and one assist. Summers amassed two goals and three assists, while senior midfielder Sarah Meisenberg (Severna Park, Md./Severn School) recorded two goals and dished out one helper. Junior Lidia Sanza (Cockeysville, Md./St. Paul's School for Girl's) played the entire 60:00 and registered nine saves.
W&L was paced by Freeman's three goals and one assist. Flippen netted two goals and dished out two assists, while senior attacker Kelsi Robinson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown), junior attacker Britten Mathews (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) and sophomore midfielders Wilton Megargel (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield) and Emmy Mathews (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) chipped in one goal apiece. Linder and sophomore Katharine Farrar (Lexington, Va./Episcopal) split time between the pipes and combined to stop nine shots.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Mary Washington for a 2:00 pm game.
