Mary Washington Defeats No. 7 W&L Women's Lacrosse, 10-9

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Mary Washington first-year midfielder Allie Kimmelman tallied five goals, including the game-winner, to lift the Eagles to a 10-9 win over seventh-ranked Washington and Lee in women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at the Battleground Athletic Complex.

Kimmelman netted four of her five goals, including the game-winning marker, in the second half. First-year midfielder Catherine Kennedy set up Kimmelman's game-winner at the 5:55 mark of the second period to give the Eagles a 9-8 advantage. Kimmelman added another marker just 1:20 later en route to the victory.

The Eagles jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the opening 13:00 minutes of the game, including a hat trick from sophomore attacker Katie Willis. The Generals then scored two-straight goals, to tie the game, 4-4, at 12:54, but UMW regained the lead at the 1:00 mark for a 5-4 lead at the break.

The second half featured three ties, with the last occuring when senior attacker Katie Flippen (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) scored on a free-position shot at the 7:40 mark (7-7).

Washington and Lee (3-2) was led by junior attacker Meredith Freeman (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS), who registered two goals and two assists. Senior attacker Kelsi Robinson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown) totaled two goals and one assist, while sophomore midfielder Emmy Mathews (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) netted two goals. Flippen, senior midfielder Colleen Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) and sophomore attacker Ellie Van Sant (Chevy Chase, Md./The Taft School) chipped in one goal apiece. First-year Jennifer Linder (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) and sophomore Katharine Farrar (Lexington, Va./Episcopal) shared time in goal and combined to stop seven shots.

Mary Washington (5-2) was paced by Kimmelman's five goals and one assist. Wallis added three goals, while first-year midfielder Jenny Atmar chipped in one marker. First-year goalkeeper Danni Guigli played all 60:00 minutes between the pipes and recorded seven saves.

The No. 7 Generals return to action on Tuesday when they host Trinity (Conn.) for a 4:00 pm game.
