Box Score CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Washington and Lee men's
basketball team began in a 9-0 hole and never recovered in falling
to Case Western Reserve University, 63-46, in the opening round of
the Stephanie Tubbs-Jones Tournament hosted by CWRU on Friday
evening.
The Generals (1-1) trailed by 15 points (35-20) at the break and
saw their deficit swell to as many as 21 points (63-42) in the
second half. For the game, W&L shot just 36.4 percent (20-55)
from the floor and the Generals hit only 3-of-13 (.231) foul
shots.
Senior forward Ben Goetsch (Timonium, Md./Gilman) paced W&L
with a game-high 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the floor. He
also grabbed six rebounds. First-year forward J.D. Ey (Charlotte,
N.C./Myers Park) added seven points, seven rebounds and two
steals.
The Spartans (2-0) shot 49.2 percent (29-59) from the floor and
were led by Tom Summers' 13 points and nine rebounds. Reid
Anderson and Evan Tsudis chipped in 12 points each.
The Generals will return to action on Saturday in the consolation
game of the tournament. W&L will take on Otterbein College, who
dropped an 84-70 decision to Thomas More in the opening round. The
consolation game is slated to begin at 5:00 pm.
