Baseball vs. Randolph-Macon

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The third-seeded Randolph-Macon baseball team used a seven-run seventh inning to post a 13-3 win over fifth-seeded Washington and Lee in the second day of the 2008 ODAC Tournament at Lynchburg City Stadium on Friday evening.

The Generals took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning off a two-run single from junior second baseman Byron Peyster (Washington, D.C./Maret), but Randolph-Macon responded with a pair of runs, tying the contest at 2-2, in the bottom of the third frame.

After W&L took a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth, R-MC leftfielder Adam Wallace smacked a two-run homerun to rightfield to give the Yellow Jackets a one-run edge and then they racked up the aforementioned seven runs in the seventh en route to the 10-run final margin.

W&L (22-11) was paced by Peyster, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Sophomore catcher Will Lewis (Columbia, S.C./A.C. Flora) registered two-hits in three at-bats, while sophomore third baseman Jim Plantholt (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) batted 2-for-3. Junior righthander Brendan Clark (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) was saddled with the loss (4-2) as he hurled 6.1 innings and allowed five hits and six earned runs.

R-MC (23-15) was led by Wallace, who went 2-for-4 with a double, a homerun and four RBI. First baseman Charlie Hart was 1-for-4 from the plate with two RBI. Left-handed pitcher Kurt Breitmeyer improved to 4-2 on the season, giving up eight hits and just three earned runs in seven innings of work.

The Generals take on top-seeded Lynchburg on Saturday at 11:00 am for the third day of the double-elimination ODAC Tournament.
