LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Washington and Lee baseball team split an ODAC doubleheader with Lynchburg College on Sunday afternoon at Fox Field. The Hornets took the first game, 14-6, but the Generals responded with a 10-5 win in the nightcap.

In the opening contest, W&L built a 4-0 lead after the top of the second added by a two-run homerun by junior centerfielder Terrence McKelvey (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip). However, LC responded, out-scoring the Generals, 14-0, over the following five innings en route to the 14-6 final margin.

McKelvey led W&L in the opener, batting 3-for-4 with a homerun and two RBI. Sophomore catcher Will Lewis (Columbia, S.C./A.C. Flora) had two hits in four at-bats with a double and two RBI, while freshman leftfielder Anthony Cardona (Lower Gwynedd, Pa./Chestnut Hill) went 2-for-3 from the plate. Senior righthander Tim Livingston (Los Angeles, Calif./Santa Monica) was saddled with his first loss of the season (3-1) as he gave up 10 hits and six earned runs in 4.0 innings of work.

In the second game, the Generals put a run on the board in the top of the first of an RBI single from Lewis, but the Hornets scored two runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 2-1 lead. Senior rightfielder James Madden (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) tied the game with an RBI single in the top of the third. Cardona then gave the Blue and White the lead for good with an RBI single in the top of the fourth, keying off a two-inning stretch where the Generals totaled eight runs to LC's one and cruised to the win.

Madden led W&L in game two, batting 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI, while Lewis had two hits in four at-bats with a double and three RBI. Sophomore righthander Chuck Davidson (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) picked up the win (4-1) after hurling seven innings of six-hit ball, allowing four earned runs and totaling four strikeouts.

The Generals (14-4, 6-2) return to action on Wednesday when they host Southern Virginia at 3:00 pm.
