LYNCHBURG, Va. – Senior guard Emily Wolff (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) paced four Generals in double figures as Washington and Lee defeated Randolph, 62-51, in ODAC women's basketball action on Friday evening.
Wolff scored 11 of her points in the opening stanza as the Generals (7-12, 6-8) built a six-point (32-26) lead at the break. The WildCats (5-14, 3-12) sliced the W&L lead to just two points (43-41) with 10:14 left in the game, but the Generals went on an immediate 8-0 run to push out to a 51-41 lead with 7:29 left in the game en route to their third-straight victory.
W&L grabbed 21 offensive rebounds in posting a 47-36 advantage on the boards. The Generals also forced 22 Randolph turnovers and limited the WildCats to just 26.7 percent (8-30) shooting in the second half.
Wolff was joined in double digits by freshman center Felice Herman (Fairfield, Pa./Delone Catholic), senior forward Amanda Kane (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson) and junior guard Bethany Ridenhour (Westwood, N.J./Holy Angels). Herman tied her career-high with 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Kane scored 11 points, all in the second half. Ridenhour added 10 points, five rebounds and four assists and senior forward Kristen Krouchick (Holland, Pa./Nazareth Academy) totaled seven points, 11 rebounds, five assists and five steals.
Randolph was led by sophomore guard Katie Rechnitzer, who scored a game-high 26 points on 5-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc. Junior guard Sam Schaffstall notched 16 points, while freshman forward Michelle Brockman chipped in five points and 11 rebounds.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it hosts Roanoke for a 4:00 pm contest. The game will be part of the WBCA's Think Pink Initiative to help raise money in the fight against breast cancer. All fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game.
