EMORY, Va. – Freshman forward Tuesdee Woods hit the second of two free throw attempts with 0.5 seconds remaining in overtime to lift Emory & Henry to an 82-81 victory over Washington and Lee in ODAC women's basketball action on Friday evening at the King Center.
W&L (9-15, 8-11) held an 81-79 lead in the final minute of the extra frame, but Woods tied the game on a jumper with 42 seconds left and the Generals were unable to answer on the other end. The Wasps (9-16, 7-13) had a chance for the final shot and Woods was fouled on a put-back attempt, setting up her winning charity toss.
The Generals held a 54-39 lead early in the second half, but E&H proceeded to go on a 19-2 run to assume a 58-56 lead with 7:44 remaining in the game. However, W&L took the lead back (60-58) just 1:02 later and did not trail again until Woods' winner in overtime.
The game was tied three times in the final six minutes of regulation, but the Generals forged ahead 72-69 heading into the final possession. Emory & Henry sophomore guard Sarah Petty then nailed a three-pointer with 13 seconds left to knot the game at 72-72 heading into overtime.
Junior forward Kara Nadeau (Oakton, Va./Oakton) had a career night to pace the Generals. She scored a career-high 18 points, dished a career-high seven assists, tied a career-high with six steals and grabbed seven rebounds. Junior guard Bethany Ridenhour (Westwood, N.J./Holy Angels) notched 13 points, while senior forward Amanda Kane (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson) tallied 11 points. Senior forward Kristen Krouchick (Holland, Pa./Nazareth Academy) added 10 points before fouling out late in the second half.
Sophomore guard Brittany Rogers led Emory & Henry with 21 points, while Petty totaled 18 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Sophomore forward Krista Haynes contributed 12 points and Woods chipped in 10 markers.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it travels to Lynchburg College for a 5:00 pm contest.
