DEMOREST, Ga. -- Piedmont used a five-run seventh inning to recover from a 9-5 deficit and post a 10-9 win over the Washington and Lee baseball team on Wednesday afternoon at Loudermilk Field in Demorest, Ga.

W&L (2-2) took a 2-0 lead off a sacrifice fly from junior second baseman Byron Peyster (Washington, D.C./Maret) in the top of the second and a solo blast from senior rightfielder James Madden (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) in the top of the third. Piedmont (6-1) would tie the contest in the following inning and held a 5-3 lead after the bottom of the fourth.

In the top of the fifth, sophomore first baseman Hunter Serenbetz (Stamford, Conn./Taft School) crushed a grand slam homerun to put the Generals on top, 7-5. W&L extended its lead to 9-5 as Peyster laced a two-run double in the top of the seventh, but the Lions racked up five runs in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win.

W&L was led offensively by Serenbetz's 3-for-5 performance with the grand slam, double and four RBI. Madden was 1-for-2 with a homerun and was walked three times, while Peyster had two hits in his four at-bats with three RBI. Serenbetz (0-1) was also saddled with the loss as he surrendered five earned runs in the seventh inning.

W&L returns to the diamond in its home-opening contest, taking on Mount Aloysius in a double-header on Saturday. The first game will start at noon.
