DOYLESTOWN, Pa. -- Senior forward Ryan Owens (Floral Park, N.Y./Chaminade) led four Washington and Lee players in double-figures with his first-ever career double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds to lift the Generals to a 74-60 victory over Delaware Valley on Tuesday evening in Doylestown, Pa.
The Generals jumped out to a 16-9 lead with 9:01remaining, but Delaware Valley pulled to within four points, 21-17, with 6:46 left in the first stanza. However, W&L responded with a 12-4 run to close out the half with a 10-point lead (33-23). Washington and Lee, who never trailed in the contest, then upped its advantage in the second half by as many as 19 points en route to the 14-point triumph.
The Generals shot 61.7 percent from the field and held Delaware Valley to just 33.3 percent shooting.
W&L (3-2) was led by Owens' 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting and collected 10 boards, while senior guard Chris McHugh (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) tallied 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting, five assists and two steals. Junior forward Ben Goetsch (Timonium, Md./Gilman) registered 14 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field, while senior forward Ben Heller (Houston, Texas/Lamar) chipped in 13 points and grabbed four rebounds.
First-year guard Chris Mayo led Delaware Valley (1-3) with 16 points and five rebounds. Sophomore guard James Jones and senior guard Jason Seipt chipped in 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it hosts ODAC-foe Emory & Henry for a 2:00 pm contest.
