Lynchburg Ends W&L Baseball’s Season With 14-2 Win In ODAC Baseball Tournament

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Lynchburg first baseman Jon Crews batted 5-for-5 with four doubles and two RBI as the Hornets eliminated the Washington and Lee baseball team from the 2007 ODAC Baseball Tournament with a 14-2 victory at Lynchburg City Stadium.

LC (23-17) posted five runs in the bottom of the first inning on the strength off a two-run double from catcher Justin Kelly and an RBI single from rightfielder Mark Carlson. The Generals responded with a single run in the top of the second inning as junior rightfielder James Madden (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) scored when LC walked freshman leftfielder Jon Ditore (Shoreline, Wash./Bishop Blanchet) with the bases loaded. However, the Hornets continued their scoring onslaught, posting at least one runs in each of the following seven frames to cruise to the 14-2 final margin.

W&L was led by senior catcher Jordon Wesley (Winston Salem, N.C./ R.J. Reynolds), who went 1-for-4 with an RBI and sophomore centerfielder Terrence McKelvey (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip), who hit 2-for-4 with a double. Freshman righthander Chuck Davidson (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) pitched 0.2 innings and gave up five earned runs and six hits before giving way to the Generals' bull pen.

Crews' performance was complemented by Kelly, who batted 3-for-6 with four RBI, and leftfielder Jeff Taylor, who hit 2-for-5 with three RBI. Carlson was 2-for-6 with an RBI and centerfielder Mark Winston had two hits in two at-bats along with one RBI. Joe Devlin improved to 3-3 on the season as he hurled 6.0 innings and allowed five hits and just one earned run.

The Generals conclude their season with an 18-14 overall mark. Lynchburg will advance to the final day of competition of the 2007 ODAC Baseball Tournament and will play an opponent determined by tonight's nightcap.
