LEXINGTON, Va. – Sophomore attacker Kelsi Robinson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown) scored four goals as the Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team concluded its regular season with a 16-5 win over Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field.
The Generals, who notched a 8-0 ODAC mark for the third-straight season, jumped out to a five-goal lead with 9:12 to play in the first half on the strength of two goals by Robinson. The Marlins (7-9, 5-3) found the back of the net when junior midfielder Jillian Boyd (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) scored at 6:42 in the first stanza, but W&L scored five of the next six goals to take a 10-2 lead into halftime.
Boyd scored just 25 seconds into the second half, cutting the score to 10-3, but two-consecutive goals from senior midfielder Mallory Lobisser (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Lakeside) upped the W&L lead to 12-3 and the Generals never looked back as they improved to 12-3 overall.
Robinson's outing was complemented by sophomore attacker Katie Flippen's (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) two goals and one assist. Lobisser and junior attacker Laura Henson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) each added a pair of goals, while senior attacker Avery Lovejoy (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) and freshman attacker Britten Mathews (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) both registered two assists.
Junior Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) played the initial 37:55 in goal for W&L, stopping six shots. Sophomore Ali Hillyard (Media, Pa./Episcopal) relieved Tilbor for the final 22:05 and notched one save.
Boyd tallied four goals for the Marlins, while sophomore midfielder Kasey Marchwicki (Boyds, Md./Poolesville) added one tally. Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Sippel (Leesburg, Va./Ashburn) played the duration between the pipes and recorded 12 saves.
The Generals have clinched the top-seed and home-field advantage in the 2007 ODAC Tournament and will have a bye in the first round. Washington and Lee will host the semifinals on Saturday at Watt Field. The game times have yet to be determined.
