The Quakers (5-8, 0-3) attempted a late rally in the top of the eighth inning as junior catcher Phil Drew (Mashpee, Mass./Mashpee) grounded out to Sweeney with the bases loaded to score sophomore centerfielder Joe John (Raleigh, N.C./Leesville Road). W&L junior lefthander Jeff Pharis (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) walked sophomore designated hitter Byron Myers (Alexandria, Va./Bishop O'Connell) to load the bases once again, but junior third baseman Zack Schlesinger (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) lined out to first base to end the comeback attempt.
