Shenandoah Posts 10-4 Win Over W&L Baseball

LEXINGTON, Va. -- Shenandoah centerfielder Ryan Anderson (Winchester, Va./Potomac State) hit 4-for-5 with two RBI as the Hornets defeated the Washington and Lee baseball team, 10-4, on Thursday afternoon at Cap'n Dick Smith Field.

Shenandoah (14-8) took a 10-0 lead highlighted by a two-run triple from Anderson in the top of the third and a two-run double from sophomore catcher Scott Lambert (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly) in the top of the sixth. The Generals (14-7) got on the board in the bottom of the sixth off a solo-homerun by sophomore centerfielder Terrence McKelvey (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) and rallied for two more runs in the seventh before the inning ended with senior second baseman David Miller (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) being thrown out at the plate. Miller capped the scoring in the ninth inning with a solo shot to leftfield.

W&L was led by McKelvey's 2-for-5 performance from the dish, while Miller went 1-for-5 and freshman third baseman Jim Plantholt (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) hit 1-for-4 with an RBI. Freshman leftfielder John Ditore (Shoreline, Wash./Bishop Blanchet) batted 1-for-3 with an RBI and freshman catcher Will Lewis (Columbia, S.C./A.C. Flora) had three hits in four at-bats. Junior righthander Steve Marcott (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) fell to 3-2 on the season, allowing six hits and four earned runs in 4.0 innings.

Anderson led SU, notching one triple, one double and two singles, while Lambert hit 3-for-5 with four RBI and junior designated hitter Adam Kessell (Harpers Ferry, W. Va./Jefferson) was 3-for-4 with one RBI. Senior righthander Jason Burgess (Severn, Md./Cardinal Gibbons) picked up the win (4-1) as he hurled six innings of four-hit ball and gave up only one earned run.

The Generals return to action on Saturday when they host Roanoke for a doubleheader at noon.
