Balanced Attack Leads W&L Women's Lacrosse to 18-1 Win over Shenandoah

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Generals had 10 different goal-scorers as the 11th-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team posted an 18-1 victory over Shenandoah University on Wednesday afternoon in Winchester, Va.

W&L (7-2) led 9-0 at halftime and never looked back as it cruised to the 18-1 victory. The Generals were paced by freshman attacker Britten Mathews (Richmond, Va./Collegiate), sophomore midfielder Colleen Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) and senior attacker Avery Lovejoy (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich), who each recorded three goals and one assist. Sophomore attacker Kelsi Robinson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown) added one goal and a trio of assists, while sophomore attacker Katie Flippen (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) tallied two goals and one assists.

Junior Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury), sophomore Ali Hillyard (Media, Pa./Episcopal) and freshman Eliza Van Beuren (Woodville, Va. Covenant) split the game between the pipes for W&L, combining to stop five would-be goals.

Jen Franco scored the Hornets (3-6) only goal of the contest off an assist from Lauren Carpinello. Wendy Taylor played the entire contest in the goal for SU and record 16 saves.

W&L returns to the field on Saturday when it travels to Washington, D.C., to take on Catholic at 12:00 pm.
