BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- Bridgewater shortstop Jono Brooks went 2-for-4 with a two-run homerun to lift the Eagles to a 3-1 victory over Washington and Lee in ODAC baseball action on Wednesday afternoon at the Jopson Field Complex.
Brooks gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning when he belted a homerun that plated rightfielder Mitchell Edwards.
The Generals (11-6, 5-3) got on the board in the top of the fourth inning as back-to-back doubles from sophomore first baseman Andrew Henderson (Atlanta, Ga./Pace) and senior catcher Jordan Wesley (Winston-Salem, N.C./R.J. Reynolds) sliced the Eagles' advantage to 2-1. However, Bridgewater got the run back in the bottom of the frame as third baseman Chance Dobbs laced a two-out single and was plated on a double by sophomore catcher Andrew Chrismer.
W&L was led at the dish by Wesley, who was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Henderson went 2-for-3 with a double, while junior leftfielder Tim Livingston (Los Angeles, Calif./Santa Monica) posted two hits in four at-bats. Junior righthander Steve Marcott (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) fell to 3-1 on the season, surrendering seven hits and three earned runs in five innings of work.
Brooks' effort paced the Eagles (7-10, 4-1) at the plate, while Chrismer added a pair of hits and one RBI in three plate appearances. Senior lefthander Matt Nolan picked up the win (3-0) after 1.1 innings of scoreless relief work.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it hosts Lynchburg College for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
