FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The 11th-ranked Mary Washington women's lacrosse team scored the final three goals of the game, including the game-winner with 36 seconds remaining, to defeat ninth-ranked Washington and Lee, 7-6, on Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles (6-1) used a three-goal spurt over the final 13:59 of the first half to assume a 4-2 lead at the break. However, the Generals (5-2) scored the first four goals of the second half to take a 6-4 lead with 9:48 remaining in the game.
Mary Washington began its comeback with 4:12 remaining on an unassisted tally by junior midfielder Margaret Murray and tied the game with 3:35 left on an unassisted goal by junior attacker Caitlin Erickson. Erickson then scored the game-winner to give the Eagles their fourth-straight victory.
Washington and Lee was led by junior midfielder Megan Slosson's (Cockeysville, Md./Maryvale Prep) two goals, while sophomore attacker Kelsi Robinson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown) notched three assists. Sophomore midfielder Colleen Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) added one goal and two assists. Junior Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) played the first 30 minutes in goal and made nine saves. Sophomore Ali Hillyard (Media, Pa./Episcopal) was between the pipes for the final 30 minutes and posted five saves.
Erickson paced the Eagles with four goals, while junior attacker Emily Talbot recorded one goal and two assists. Junior Meredith Deitrick notched six saves in goal.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Wednesday as it hosts Averett for a 4:00 pm contest.
