HARRISONBURG, Va. -- The Washington and Lee baseball team took both games of a ODAC doubleheader with Eastern Mennonite on Saturday at the EMU Baseball Field to extend its winning streak to eight contests. The Generals won the first game, 11-3, and were victorious in the second game, 17-4.
In game one, the Generals (10-3, 5-0) erupted for nine runs over the first three innings en route to the 11-3 final. W&L was led by junior leftfielder Tim Livingston (Los Angeles, Calif./Santa Monica), who hit 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Senior designated hitter Richard Garland (Fort Worth, Texas/Arlington Heights) went 1-for-3 with a solo-homerun. Senior righthander Clayton Edwards (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) pitched six innings and allowed just two earned runs on three hits to net his third win (3-0) of the season.
In the second game, W&L jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first four innings of play and never looked back as it cruised to the 17-4 final. The Generals were paced by senior second baseman David Miller's (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) 4-of-7 performance from the plate with two doubles and four RBI. Edwards batted 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI, while junior rightfielder James Madden (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) hit 2-for-3 and notched a double and two RBI. Junior lefthander John Parker (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence) hurled the first 6.2 innings, giving up six hits and four earned runs, while registering six strikeouts as he tallied his second win (2-1) of the year.
EMU (3-12, 0-2) was paced by sophomore catcher Chad Lang, who batted 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI in the first game, and senior centerfielder Brandon Zollman's 2-for-4 hitting with one RBI in game two. Freshman righthander Jeff Walker (0-3) took the loss in the first game, while freshman righthander Jesse Baker (1-1) was saddled with the second defeat.
The Generals return to action on Sunday when they take on Mary Washington at 1:00 pm in Fredericksburg, Va.
