EMORY, Va. -- Washington and Lee shot 80.0 percent from the floor in the second half and a school-record 72.9 percent from the field in contest, but it wasn't enough as Emory & Henry pulled out a 100-95 win in ODAC men's basketball action on Wednesday evening at the King Center.
The Generals (10-10, 5-9) had six players post double-figures in points for the first time since a February 16, 1994 meeting with Eastern Mennonite.
W&L held a slim lead (28-27) with 6:31 to play in the first half, but the Wasps closed out the period with an 18-5 run to take a 45-33 advantage into the break.
In the second half, E&H (13-8, 9-6) built its lead to 20 points (75-55) with 10:46 remaining, however the Generals used a 14-1 run to cut the lead to seven points (76-69) with 7:36 to go. Emory & Henry hit two-straight three-pointers to up its lead to 82-69, but W&L countered with a 13-4 run to make it a four-point game (86-82) with 4:17 to play in the contest. Washington and Lee got as close as two points (95-93) with 37 seconds left, yet the Wasps hit 5-of-6 from the charity stripe to secure the 100-95 win.
W&L shot 43-of-59 from the field (.729), shattering the previous school record set in 1981 (68.0% against Shenandoah). The Generals also out-rebounded E&H, 40-29, but were hurt by 9-of-19 (.474) shooting from the foul line. The Wasps connected on 26-of-36 (.722) from the free throw line.
Junior forward Greg Bienemann (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) paced the six Generals in double-figures with his 18-point, 12-board performance. Junior forward Femi Kusimo (Cross Lanes, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) notched 19 points, while senior forward Alex White (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) tied a career-high with 12 markers. Sophomore guards Isaiah Goodman (Richfield, Minn./Holy Angels) and Chris McHugh (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) each dropped in 11 points and sophomore forward Ben Heller (Houston, Texas/Lamar) matched a season-high with 10 points.
The Wasps were led by Lance Reasbeck's 19 points and Robert Hudson, who added 18 points. Camillo Weinz racked up 17 markers, while Andrew Hart scored 11 points.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it hosts Hampden-Sydney at 2:00 pm at the Warner Center.
