EMORY, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's basketball team tied a program record with its fifth-consecutive win in defeating Emory & Henry, 62-44, on Tuesday evening at the King Center.
The Generals (10-8, 6-7) equaled the mark set during the 1998-99 and 2001-02 seasons and have now won seven of their last eight contests dating back to Jan. 12.
Against the Wasps (7-12, 3-11), W&L opened the game on a 13-2 run and held E&H to just one field goal in the first 12:01 of the game en route to a 30-23 lead at the break.
The Wasps closed to within three points (37-34) at the 11:32 mark of the second half on a three-pointer by freshman guard Kristy Brooking, but the Generals answered right back as junior forward Amanda Kane (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson) drilled a three-pointer on the other end to key a 13-0 run that gave W&L a 50-34 lead with 5:50 left in the game. Emory & Henry cound not get to within single digits the rest of the way.
Washington and Lee was paced by junior forward Kristen Krouchick's (Holland, Pa./Nazareth Academy) 17 points. Senior center Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./Orme School) notched 14 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks, while Kane tallied 12 points and seven boards. Junior guard Emily Wolff (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) recorded six points, nine rebounds and five assists, while sophomore forward Kara Nadeau (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) chipped in eight points, five rebounds and five assists.
Emory & Henry, which shot just 23.3 percent (17-73) from the floor, was led by freshman guard Alex Lyons' 16-point, 11-rebound effort. Freshman forward Samantha Shepard added eight points and eight boards.
Washington and Lee will look to win its sixth-straight contest on Friday evening as it hosts Randolph-Macon Woman's College for a 7:00 pm contest.
