LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's basketball team grabbed a school-record 75 rebounds, including 41 offensive boards, in defeating Randolph-Macon Woman's College by a score of 73-49 on Saturday afternoon in Lynchburg, Va.
The Generals (5-7, 3-6) broke the game open with a 16-6 run midway through the first quarter en route to a 10-point lead (41-31) at the break. The lead remained 10 points (50-40) with 12:38 left in the game, but another W&L spurt, this time a 21-4 run over 10:38 gave the Generals a commanding 27-point lead (71-44) with 2:00 left in the game.
W&L, which held a 75-21 overall advantage on the boards, had three players record a double-double in points and rebounds. Freshman center Kaitlyn Kamp (Bloomington, Minn./Lutheran) led the way with career-highs in both points (15) and rebounds (13). Junior forward Kristen Krouchick (Holland, Pa./Nazareth Academy) notched 14 points and 10 boards, while senior center Jessica Hunsinger (Mayer, Ariz./Orme School) had 10 points and 13 rebounds. Sophomore guard Bethany Ridenhour (Westwood, N.J./Holy Angels) was a fourth Generals to score double figures as she accounted for 10 points and six rebounds.
Randolph-Macon Woman's (1-11, 1-8) was led by sisters Sara and Katie Rechnitzer, who tallied 13 points each.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Tuesday as it hosts Randolph-Macon for a 7:00 pm contest.
