W&L Women's Lacrosse Breezes by Catholic, 21-6

LEXINGTON, Va. – The 17th-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team had 13 different players score a goal, including three players with three goals each, in a 21-6 victory over Catholic on Sunday afternoon at the W&L Turf Field.

The Generals (7-3) jumped out to a 6-0 lead with 9:08 gone-by in the first half, including four goals in a 1:03 stretch. Junior attacker Avery Lovejoy (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) notched two goals and one assist during the run, while junior midfielder Kelly Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) added two assists. The Cardinals (4-4) got on the scoreboard at the 11:42 mark on a free position goal by junior Courtney Murray (Langhorne, Pa./Villa Maria) to cut the deficit to 6-1, but W&L would tally eight of the next nine goals to take a 14-2 lead into halftime.

Catholic opened the second half by scoring two of the first three goals to make it a 15-4 game, but the Generals notched the next five goals to push their lead to 20-4. The Cardinals closed out the game by scoring two of the final three goals in the last 1:22 to make the final score 21-6.

For the Generals, Lovejoy, senior attacker Kate Lester (Wilmington, Del./Friends) and junior midfielder Maggie Megear (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) all notched three goals. Lovejoy also added an assist, while senior midfielder Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) had two goals and two assists. Senior attacker Amanda Strickler (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) and freshman attacker Kelsi Robinson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown) both recorded one goal and two assists. Sophomore Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) and freshman Erin Coltrera (Seattle, Wash./Lakeside) combined to make two saves in goal.

The Cardinals were led by junior Jaclyn Seward (Freehold, N.J./St. John Vianney), who scored three goals. Senior Courtney Tipping (Chestnut, Mass./Dana Hall) and freshman Kerri Gaston (White Plains, N.Y./Good Counsel) combined to stop eight shots between the pipes.

The Generals returns to action on Sat., Apr. 8 when they host Sweet Briar at 2:00 pm.
