W&L Baseball Splits With Virginia Wesleyan

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Washington and Lee baseball team split a doubleheader at ODAC-foe Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon in Virginia Beach, Va. The Generals won the first game 10-7, but fell in the nightcap 14-13.

In game one, junior righthander Clayton Edwards (Atlanta, Ga./Westminter) allowed just six hits in six innings to improve to 5-0 on the season. Junior third baseman David Miller (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) batted 3-for-5, while junior designated hitter Richard Garland (Fort Worth, Texas/Arlington Heights) went 3-for-4 with a homerun and two RBI. Junior catcher Jordan Wesley (Winston-Salem, N.C./R.J. Reynolds) went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI.

In game two, the Generals (13-5-1, 6-1) fell behind 7-1 after the first inning, but fought their way back to tie the game at 11-11 after eight innings. W&L then scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning to take a 13-11 advantage, but in the bottom of the frame, the Marlins (6-12, 3-3) plated three runs to come away with the 14-13 win.

Edwards, Wesley and sophomore outfielder James Madden (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) all smacked a homerun for the Generals.

W&L returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Southern Virginia for a 3:00 pm contest.
