LEXINGTON, Va. – Junior attacker Amanda Strickler (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) tallied four goals and four assists to help lead 13th-ranked Washington and Lee to a 21-8 victory over Randolph-Macon in ODAC women's lacrosse action on Thursday afternoon at Watt Field. With the win, the Generals improved to 12-2 overall, 8-0 ODAC and clinched the No. 1 seed in the ODAC Tournament. The Yellow Jackets fell to 8-5 overall, 6-2 ODAC.
W&L jumped out to a 2-0 lead at the 23:49 mark of the first half on unassisted goals by junior midfielder Kate Lester (Wilmington, Del./Friends) and Strickler. R-MC responded to tie the game at 2-2 at 16:41, but the Generals responded with the next three markers to take a 5-2 lead with 12:07 remaining in the first half. The Generals pushed their lead to 8-5 on an unassisted goal by senior midfielder Kristen Brown (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) at 3:19, but the Yellow Jackets made it 8-6 on a free position goal by sophomore attacker Traci Phipps (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) with 1:49 left in the stanza. W&L took its 8-6 lead into halftime.
Lester scored her second tally of the game at the 27:56 mark of the second half to give the Generals a 9-6 advantage, but Phipps recorded her second goal of the contest to cut the deficit to 9-7 at 26:48. This would be as close as R-MC would get as W&L would outscore the Yellow Jackets, 12-1, for the remainder of the game.
Strickler was aided by Lester, who tallied four goals and one assist. Sophomore midfielder Kelly Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) and junior defender Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) each registered three goals for the Generals, while freshman goalkeeper Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) stopped five shots.
Junior midfielder Liz Lombardo (Baltimore, Md./Mercy) led the Yellow Jackets with three goals, while Phipps and freshman attacker Halley Boring (Laurel, Md./Atholton) each notched two goals. Freshman Lindsay Schabert (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) made 17 saves in goal.
The Generals close out the regular season on Sunday when they play at fifth-ranked College of New Jersey. The game starts at 12:00 pm.
