SALEM, Va. -- Junior attacker Amanda Strickler (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) scored three goals and assisted on three others in leading 16th-ranked Washington and Lee to a 16-5 win over Roanoke in ODAC women's lacrosse action on Monday afternoon.
The Maroons (3-9, 1-4) opened the scoring when freshman attacker Amanda Hutchins found the net unassisted just one minute into the game. However, the Generals responded by reeling off six straight goals by six different players for a 6-1 lead with 5:42 remaining in the first half. Roanoke cut the advantage to 6-2 with a goal at the 3:22 mark of the first half, but W&L (11-2, 7-0) again went on a run. This time, the Generals scored eight straight markers for a 14-2 lead midway through the second half in cruising to the win.
Strickler's fine outing was accompanied by two goals and one assist from sophomore midfielder Mallory Lobisser (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Lakeside) and one goal and two assists by senior midfielder Natalya Hoobchaak (Barrington, Ill./Loyola Academy). Junior attacker Kate Lester (Wilmington, Del./Friends), sophomore attacker Kelly Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County), and freshmen midfielders Laura Henson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) and Megan Slosson (Cockeysville, Md./Maryvale Prep) each added two goals. Freshman Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) posted five saves in goal.
Roanoke was led by Hutchins' three goals, while senior Liz Manfredini recorded 11 saves in net.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Thursday as it hosts Randolph-Macon in the Generals' ODAC regular season finale. Opening draw is slated for 4:30 pm.
