LEXINGTON, Va. – The 16th-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team had 10 different players score a goal in a 13-5 win over ODAC-rival Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field.
The Marlins (7-2, 3-1) took a 2-1 lead at the 23:03 mark on goals by sophomore midfielder Jamie Jones (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie) and senior attacker Megan Parris (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley). W&L junior midfielder Kate Lester (Wilmington, Del./Friends), who tallied the first Generals' goal, scored the next two W&L goals to give the Generals a 3-2 lead with 17:28 remaining in the half. W&L led 4-2 at the 16:27 mark, but the Marlins responded with the next two goals to knot the game at 4-4 with 10:31 left. W&L took a 6-4 advantage into halftime on goals by junior midfielder Maggie Megear (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) and sophomore midfielder Kelly Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County).
The Generals then notched the first four goals of the second half to take a 10-4 lead with 22:29 remaining en route to the eight-goal win.
Lester finished with three goals, while Evans recorded two goals and two assists and junior attacker Amanda Strickler (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) had one goal and one assist. Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) tied her career high with 15 saves.
Junior midfielder Laura Wallace (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) led the Marlins with two goals and an assist, while Parris finished with a pair of goals. Sophomore netminder Jacqui Downey (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale) stopped 11 shots.
The Generals return to the field on Wednesday when they host Hollins. The game begins at 4:30 pm.
