LEXINGTON, Va. – Sophomore midfielder Kaylan Tildsley (Andover, Mass.) scored a game-high four goals to help lead 12th-ranked Williams College to a 7-5 victory over 16th-ranked Washington and Lee in women's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon at Watt Field.
The Ephs (3-1) jumped out to a 3-0 lead with 10:25 remaining in the first half on two goals by Tildsley and one by senior attacker Tara Boyd (New Canaan, Conn.). W&L (7-2) pulled to within 3-2 at the 5:15 mark and tied the game at 3-3 with 4:02 left when junior midfielder Kate Lester (Wilmington, Del./Friends) scored off a pass from junior attacker Amanda Strickler (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County). However, Tildsley notched her third goal of the game at the 1:17 mark to give Williams a 4-3 lead heading into halftime.
The Ephs went up 6-3 with 17:48 remaining in the second half, but Lester recorded an unassisted goal at 15:06 to cut the deficit to 6-4. Williams went back up 7-4 on a tally by freshman attacker Sarah Adkins (Oxford, Md.) with 7:44 remaining. W&L made the final score 7-5 after senior midfielder Natalya Hoobchaak (Barrington, Ill./Loyola Academy) scored off a feed from Strickler with 15 seconds left.
Hoobchaak and Lester each finished with two goals for the Generals, while Strickler dished out three assists. Freshman Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) made six saves in goal.
For the Ephs, Tildsley was aided by Boyd, who notched one goal and two assists. Senior goalkeeper Ann Woods (Hopkington, N.H.) stopped eight shots in the victory.
The Generals return to the field on Saturday when they host Virginia Wesleyan. The game begins at 2:00 pm.
