W&L Women's Lacrosse Defeats Catholic, 6-5

WASHINGTON D.C. – The 16th-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team jumped out to a 5-2 halftime lead and held on for a 6-5 victory over Catholic University on Saturday afternoon in Washington D.C.

The Generals (3-1) got goals from six different players and were led by sophomore attacker Avery Lovejoy (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich), who tallied a goal and an assist. Senior midfielder Erin Rathbone (Darnestown, Md./Northwest), junior defender Kate Lester (Wilmington, Del./Friends), sophomore midfielders Maggie Megear (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) and Mallory Lobisser (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Lakeside) and freshman attacker Christine Bender (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) each scored a goal for W&L.

Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) made eight saves in the victory.

The Cardinals (2-3) outshot the Generals, 24-19, and got three goals from sophomore Courtney Murray. Senior Marisa Schaffer and sophomore Jaclyn Seward each tallied a goal, while senior Sarah McGrath stopped five shots in the loss.

The Generals return to the field tomorrow when they play at Lynchburg. The game begins at 2:00 pm.
