W&L Men's Basketball Defeated by Eastern Connecticut, 72-66

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Senior guard Michael Stallings scored a game-high 26 points, including 10-of-13 from the free throw line, to lift Eastern Connecticut State to a 72-66 win over Washington and Lee in the consolation game of the Rochester Tournament on Sunday afternoon in Rochester, N.Y.

Each team led by as many as four points in the first half and the Warriors (3-2) went into halftime with a 29-25 lead.

In the second stanza, the Generals (0-5) regained the lead at 34-32 with 16:51 left on a jumper by junior guard Chris Davis (Birmingham, Ala./Altamont School) and pushed their advantage to 13 points (47-34) on a layup by sophomore forward Greg Bienemann (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) with 12:24 remaining.

Eastern Connecticut slowly chipped away at the deficit and recaptured the lead at 53-51 on a layup by Stallings with 6:47 left in the second half. W&L tied the score at 53-53 on a layup by sophomore forward Femi Kusimo (Charleston, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) at the 6:09 mark, but the Warriors took the lead for good on a three-pointer by junior guard Geoffrey Richardson with 5:45 remaining.

W&L shot 52 percent (24-of-46) from the floor, including 65 percent (17-of-26) in the second half. Eastern Connecticut shot 50 percent (22-of-44) for the game.

The Generals were led by junior guard Chris Halkitis' (New Port Richey, Fla./Ridgewood) 16 points. Bienemann, who was named to the all-tournament team, finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, and a team-high five assists. Kusimo chipped in with 13 points and five boards.

For the Warriors, Richardson finished with 13 points and a game-high four steals, while junior forward Leon Martin added 11 points and six rebounds.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Bridgewater for a 7:00 pm contest.
