LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's basketball team had all 11 players score and tied a school record with 21 steals in a 79-56 victory over Mary Baldwin on Tuesday night at the Warner Center.
The Generals (6-4) stormed out to a 14-3 lead 5:40 into the game and increased their lead to 23 points (37-14) with 5:28 remaining in the first half. The Fighting Squirrels (1-8) went on a 10-0 run over the next 3:55 to slice the W&L lead to 37-24, but that would be as close as they would get as the Generals closed the half on a 6-0 run to take a 43-24 halftime advantage.
W&L had three players finish in double figures, led by freshman forward Kristen Krouchick (Holland, Pa./Nazareth Academy), who scored a team-high 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Senior guard Bethany Dannelly (Raleigh, N.C./William G. Enloe) notched 10 points, dished out six assists and collected a game-high eight steals. Junior guard Louisa Feve (Bethesda, Md./Winston Churchill) rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points and handed out six assists.
Mary Baldwin was led by junior guard Katrina Scruggs (Norfolk, Va./Granby), who poured in a game-high 23 points and pulled down seven rebounds. She also surpassed the 1,000 point plateau. Sophomore guard Melissa Conyers (Fisherville, Va./Stuarts Draft) and freshman guard Fallone Brown (Buckingham, Va./Buckingham) chipped in with eight points apiece.
The Generals return to action on Saturday when they travel to Roanoke to play Hollins University. The game is set to begin at 2:00 pm..
