LEXINGTON, Va. – The tenth-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team outscored Catholic, 10-0, in the second half as the Generals defeated the Cardinals, 18-7, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

W&L (9-2) rushed out to a 6-2 lead in the opening 13:34 of the contest, but saw Catholic (5-4) battle back with a 5-1 run that tied the game at 7-7 with 3:55 remaining in the first half. The Generals took a narrow 8-7 lead into the mid-game break as senior midfielder Lee Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) scored with 3:18 remaining before halftime.

Senior attacker Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) led all scorers with five goals, while junior midfielder Kitt Murphy (New York, N.Y./St. Catherines) scored four goals with one assist and sophomore attacker Amanda Strickler (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) scored three goals and dished out two assists. Senior Joanna Perini (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) made nine stops in the W&L goal.

Senior attacker Ali Jarden (Spring Lake, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) led the Cardinals with four goals and one assist, while junior attacker Marisa Schaffer (Ft. Washington, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) and freshman midfielder Courtney Murray (Langhorne, Pa./Villa Joseph Maria) each scored one goal and dished out one assist. Junior Sarah McGrath (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) made 12 saves in the Catholic goal.

The Generals return to action on Tuesday when they host sixth-ranked Williams for a 4:00 p.m. game.
