W&L Baseball Splits At Virginia Wesleyan

NORFOLK, Va. - Freshman Clayton Edwards (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) went 5-for-8 with a pair of doubles and seven RBI as the Generals split a double-header with Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday. The Marlins took game one with a 9-5 decision, while W&L rallied for an 8-6 win in game two.

In game two, senior right hander Dan Kagey (Marietta, Ga./Lovett) recorded the win for the Generals (14-7, 8-2) after giving up 14 hits in 7.2 innings of work with four strikeouts and four walks. Senior Bryan Mulhern (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville) recorded his first save of the season after holding Virginia Wesleyan to just two hits in 1.1 innings in relief.

Edwards went 3-for-5 with two doubles and five RBI to lead the Generals, while Mulhern, junior Zach Bausch (Vienna, Va./McLean) and sophomore Taylor McConnell (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) all recorded a pair of hits in the victory.

In game one, senior left hander Peter Dean (Vienna, Va./James Madison) suffered his first loss of the season (6-1) after giving up seven hits and eight runs in three innings of work.

Edwards went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while six other Generals recorded solo hits.

The Generals return to action Tuesday when they host Bridgewater for a 3:00 p.m. game.
