W&L Women's Lacrosse Downs Colby, 14-5

RICHMOND, Va. – The tenth-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team used a 7-1 advantage in the first half as the Generals defeated 12th-ranked Colby, 14-5, in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon at the University of Richmond.

Following halftime, the Mules (0-2) scored four of the next five goals to pull within 8-5 of the Generals (7-2) with 16:29 left to play.  Washington and Lee reaffirmed its control of the game, however, and scored seven straight goals to end the afternoon's scoring.

Senior attacker Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) led all scorers with four goals, while senior midfielder Lee Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) scored three goals and dished out one assist. Freshman midfielders Kelly Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) and Mallory Lobisser (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Lakeside) each scored two goals. Senior Joanna Perini (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) made 16 saves in the W&L goal.

Junior attacker Julia Benedict (Dover, Mass./Miss Porter's School) and freshman midfielder Courtney Drake (Falmouth, Maine/Wayneflete School) each scored a goal and dished out an assist for Colby, while freshman Catharine O'Brien (Reading, Vt./Hotchkiss School) made 12 saves in the Mules' goal.

The Generals return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Bridgewater for a 3:00 p.m. game.
