W&L Baseball Downs Roanoke, 6-3

LEXINGTON, Va. - Senior right hander Bryan Mulhern (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville) held Roanoke to just seven hits and two runs in seven innings of work as the Generals downed the Maroons, 6-3, in ODAC baseball action on Wednesday afternoon at Cap'n Dick Smith Field.

With the Generals (11-4, 5-0) trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning, sophomore second baseman Scott Gosselink (Austin, Texas/St. Stephen's Episcopal) led off the frame with a single to left field. Mulhern made the most of the situation and drove his fourth home run of the season over the centerfield wall to give W&L a 3-1 lead. Before the inning was over, the Generals took control of the game as sophomore first baseman Taylor McConnell (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) brought home the eventual go-ahead run with a two-out solo homerun to center.

Mulhern led W&L from the plate with a 2-for-3 showing, two RBI and two runs scored, while junior Zach Bausch (Vienna, Va./McLean) connected on 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Sophomore catcher Brandon Wilson (Smithfield, Va./Smithfield) went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored to lead the Maroons' (9-10, 0-3) offense, while sophomore right hander Jimmy Winterer (Linden, Va./Warren County) suffered his second loss of the season after giving up six hits and four runs in six innings of work.

The Generals return to action on Thursday when they travel to Shenandoah for a 3:00 p.m. game.
