SAINT MARY'S CITY, Md. – Allyson Sarigianis scored four goals and Jen Chumley made 13 saves to lead 10th-ranked St. Mary's (Md.) past ninth-ranked Washington and Lee, 11-2, in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.
The Seahawks (1-0) scored seven unanswered goals in the first half and the first tally of the second half before senior attacker Kelly Taffe (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) put the Generals (1-1) on the scoreboard with a free position goal at 41:41.
St. Mary's iced the win with three more goals, including two from Sarigianis, before W&L found the net again with a free position goal from freshman midfielder Kelly Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) at 58:13.
Senior Joanna Perini (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) recorded 11 saves in goal for the Generals.
The Seahawks outshot the Generals, 24-21, and held a narrow 7-6 advantage in draw controls. Both squads picked up 28 ground balls.
The Generals return to action on Wednesday when they host Greensboro for a 4:00 p.m. game.
